Kugimiya Rie visited Taiwan, caused chaos
The fans are crazy, so there’s no surprise that when the Kugyuu appeared in person on the day, chaos breaks out, and makes it to the news (again). You can watch a clip of the news here.
So apparently more than a thousand fans tried to cram into the event space just to get a glimps of the Kugyuu in person, a couple of people fainted (literally), many fell due to the pushing and shuffling, and one of the book booths got pushed over by the crowd causing thousands of volumes of manga to be scattered on the floor.
To finish off this post, here’s a pic of one person infected with the Kugimiya Disease showing off his loot on TV.

EDIT: More video
So the fans were climbing barriers and even dissambled the dividers to get a look (whoa, show some manners, dudes!), some took advantage of the chaos to pick pockets (smart guys… I mean damn you thieves!), and the guy showing off the loot was one of those who camped 20+ days, and he wore a glove to shake hands with the Kyuguu so that he can treasure it, hmmm, okie dokie…..

You told me once that being a seiyuu is generally a low-paying job with very little job security. I think it may be the case, if only because EVERYONE wants to be, and is trying their damnedest to be, the next Akira Kamiya, or Megumi Hayashibara, or Rie Tanaka, or now Rie Kugimiya.
There’s always someone else to do your job in the seiyuu industry, until you start being recognized for the unique voice you are. Would that more seiyuus get the opportunity to shine . . .
I wonder if the news article mentions what the entrance fee was. Events like these are always a great way to extort the fans for “worthless trinkets and junk that no one needs.”
I can’t wait to see you post a vid for the kind of reception a famous MALE seiyuu will get.

Hearing her name in Chinese was kinda bizarre.
Also twenty days wtf. o___o Kugyuu’s autograph would be awesome but there are other things I’d like to do with a month of my life…

Me too, me too. Oh jeez, the videos about this are hilarious. People fainting? For real? @_@?
… I-Is the Kugyuu fan base more rabid than Yukarin’s? ;A;

No mention of entrace fee. But being in Asian countries like Taiwan I suspect it won’t be more than US$4-5 for entrance.

I think the Kugyuu fan base are more rabid because she doesn’t do these things often, though they seem to be “for one’s self” type, whereas Yukarin fans are way more organised as a group.
