Mizuki Nana to provide voice and songs for upcoming Wii dancing game

It’s hard to pinpoint who is responsible for something like this – either the producers at Bandai Namco are closet seiyuu ota or that the huge commercial success of IDOLM@STER means the marketing guys are dictating that every music game by Bandai Namco must have otaku appeal. The upcoming Happy Dance Collection (tentative title) game by Bandai Namco for the Nintendo Wii will feature a mascot character voiced by Mizuki Nana, not only that, but Nana-chan will also be singing a whopping total of 4 original songs for this dancing game. Besides the Nana-chan songs, there will be a bunch of well-known J-pop, old and new anime songs, and of course let’s not forget, IDOLM@STER songs.

While no definite dates are given, the game is scheduled to come out this year. With the huge penetration of the Wii, this might be a great opportunity for Nana-chan to get her name out amongst the general population. For seiyuu (Nana-chan) fans like us, who could pass up the opportunity to dance to Mizuki Nana and iM@S songs? I don’t know about you but I’m buying this for sure.

(The original story ran at Kotaku, but obviously they wouldn’t notice the deep seiyuu angle of this story)

…a Mizuki Nana mascot for a dancing game? Gee, I’m not sure what to make of that. I don’t think anyone beyond hardcore otaku would even bother with it. I’ll pass on the game, but the CD (hopefully there’ll be one) is a done deal.

I don’t know too many Wii games worth buying from a gamer’s perspective so this is something of a cross-genre appeal.

And a bit of a cross-console appeal too. It’s not like everyone in Japan has a xbox360, so now those kids can get a small taste of what they’ve seen.

The music game genre in Japan is fairly popular even amongst non-hardcore people. Some people will definitely buy it just for the normal Jpop tunes. The iM@S and Nana-chan songs are of course targetting the otaku base to ensure at least some guaraneteed sales number, the others will be icing.

Ah. I want this game. I haven’t bought a dancing game yet, but Nana Mizuki is great reason for me to set aside the money to get one. It’s also another reason for me to finally get my wii.

But four original Nana songs…I’ll definitely need to get my hand on those once they’re released!

Awesome, it’s time to dust off the almost-forgotten Wii.
Hopefully they will release the game in other regions, otherwise I gotta crack the Wii to play this..

I’m definitely buying this for my Wii…no matter how much it’s gonna cost me or how ridiculous the games gonna be. Nana-chan FTW. XD

Chances of this making it to the US: ZERO.

Chances of me importing it: Almost certain. :D But like j1m0ne already said, I’d opt for a CD first.
